Who we are

About us

The St John Youth Program is all about first aid, leadership opportunities and community service. It is a fun and engaging program for young people that builds confidence and is about finding your crew! You may discover an interest in a healthcare career, or a passion for community service. Whatever your jam, we can help you find it!

“I’m loving my time at St John, and I hope to continue being part of the organisation in the years to come”

(Previous Youth Member – now Youth Leader)

St John Ambulance Australia has been providing youth development programs and opportunities for young people aged 8 to 25 years for almost 100 years! We provide young people with opportunities to learn new skills, participate in exciting activities, meet new people and have fun! You will learn about first aid, leadership and how you can help others.

“Being a St John Youth member has helped me be more confident about myself and ready to help when help is needed.”

What we do

We are dedicated to helping people

In Australia, St John started in 1883 (St John in Australia is over 140 years old!), with the first cadet division (now called youth divisions in most places) opening in New South Wales 1925. Today, St John is a not for profit, charitable organisation that operates in every state and territory of Australia.

We are dedicated to helping people in sickness, distress, suffering or danger, without distinction of race, class or creed. We can’t wait to welcome you to this amazing organisation!

Youth Development

Creating opportunities
for young people

Youth Development in St John provides coordinated and progressive opportunities for young people aged 8-25 years.

By combining first aid and youth oriented activities within St John, we aim to develop self-reliant and self-confident young people who take their place as responsible members of society with a developed sense of community service.

The St John Youth Program:

  • Inspires young people to be the best they can be

  • Supports young people to learn and lead and develop their skills in first aid and other areas of interest

  • Provides a place for young people to make friends and meet new people, outside of the school environment

  • Provides an insight into the healthcare sector that you will not find in other youth programs
